Girl Power? Performance at Exeter Phoenix
Our two year women’s arts project culminated with two breathtaking and awe-inspiring performances in the main auditorium at the Exeter Phoenix.
The show an original devised story was created by women drawn together from across Exeter and working together over a three month period. It focuses around the discovery of an old case by a member of staff at a care home. The staff can’t resist the temptation to look inside. What they find is a story, a story told in pictures of the sometimes ordinary, sometimes extraordinary life of Connie.
The performance explored assumptions about the lives of older women, questions about how women have been both manipulated and manipulators and the idea of “Girl Power”
As the contents of the case are revealed the audience witness snapshots of Connie’s life
Through a lifetime spanning ten decades we see her loves, her friendships, her joys and her sorrows, her challenges, her triumphs, her losses.
