creative approaches to young people with sexually concerning behaviour
5-7 December 2007 Edinburgh
A three day course on using drama and theatre techniques with young people who have sexually concerning behaviour
This three-day training course will explore the use of creative techniques with young people who have sexually concerning behaviour - which may range from young people making themselves sexually vulnerable through to young people exhibiting sexually aggressive behaviour.
The use of drama and arts techniques can create a methodology of working with this group of young people that is more accessible and young people friendly. We will be working on techniques suitable for both groupwork and one to one, including basic drama and roleplay techniques, body awareness work, using art work and photographs, mask techniques and development of metaphor.
Over the three days the course will address topics including:
- self esteem and self image
- sex and relationship education
- fantasy
- cycles of thought, feeling and behaviour
- relapse and prevention
- assessment
The course is suitable for any one working directly or indirectly with young people with these issues - including youth workers, youth offending team members, therapists and psychologists. No previous drama experience is necessary.
