Working with Refugees, Immigrants & Issues of Inter-cultural Communications
The plight of the immigrant & refugee is one of the biggest issues of our time as worldwide borders break down. The refugees’ experience of being in a foreign land where to them, the language, culture & way of life can be alien, & where they might be seen by members of that society as “the alien” can be difficult enough. Add to this the baggage of trauma, loss of home & loved ones & sense of being that some refugees bring with them, & the problems associated with cross cultural communication can be immense. This training course is aimed at professions & therapists working with such groups & includes:
- understanding the implications of displacement
- communication difficulties
- techniques to work with victims of trauma
- teaching cultural skills & communication
- working with mixed culture groups
